Technology isn’t always a computer or smartphone. Sometimes, it’s a medication reminder, a robotic vacuum, or a simple grab bar that makes everyday life a little easier.
Through the Enabling Technology Grant Program, older adults and individuals with disabilities across South Central Tennessee are receiving practical tools to help them remain safe, independent, and connected in their own homes.

Recently, Jamie Canady, SCTDD’s Director of Aging & Disability, had the opportunity to speak at the Enabling Tech Summit, presented by the Tennessee Department of Disability & Aging.
During the summit, Jamie shared how SCTDD is helping individuals discover and utilize everyday technologies that support independent living.
Across our region, these grant-funded solutions have included wheelchair ramps, shower chairs, medication reminders, personal emergency response systems, robotic vacuums, air purifiers, virtual companion pets, and more.
While some of these solutions may seem simple, their impact can be life-changing. They can improve home safety, make daily tasks more manageable, reduce isolation, and provide peace of mind for individuals and their families.
At the heart of this program is a simple goal: helping people live safely, independently, and with dignity in the place they call home.
